Lena McDonald nee Tjarks daughter of the late Arend and Caroline (Brandt) Tjarks was born April 28, 1895, at Alden, Iowa and passed away Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock, March 27 at the Eldora Memorial Hospital following surgery, at the age of sixty years and eleven months. Her husband and children were present at the time.

On November 21, 1912 she was united in marriage to John McDonald at Eldora. She spent nearly all of her life in Hardin County. At the time of her death she lived on a farm west of Eldora. She received the Holy Sacrament of Christian baptism on June 2nd in the Evangelical Church at Alden and remained a life long baptised member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church.

She will long be remembered as a kind and loving mother by her children and will be greatly missed by her husband who helped her share the burdens and responsiblities of rearing a large family.

Neighbors will also miss her as a good friend that could always be depended upon.

Surviving her are her husband John and four sons, Leslie and Bernard of Marshalltown, Wilbur of Owatonna, MN and Glen of Stuartville, MN. Seven daughters Mrs. Ervin (Leora) Kuhlman of Hubbard, Mrs. Richard (Myrna) Hurd of Dows, Mrs. Ralph (Blanche) Classon of Williams, Mrs. George (Ruby) Hallet, Jr. of Union, Mrs. Leonard (Darlene) Peters, of Springfield, IL, Mrs. Loren (Arleta) Peters of Marshalltown, and Mrs. Gerald(Mary Lou) Risuis of Green Mountain. Also twenty-two grandchildren and seven brother; Fred Tjarks of Hubbard, Henry Tjarks of Mason City, Richard Tjarks, Louis Tjarks, Minn Tjarks, Arend Tjarks, and Ernest Tjarks all of Iowa Falls. Also three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Grace) Bunte of Hubbard, Mrs. Dora Silvest and Mrs. Hilka Duncan of Iowa Falls. One half brother, Folt Tjarks of Webb, IA. Also a large number of nieces and nephews.

Her parents, two sisters, Minnie Tjarks and Mrs. Rollin (Marie) Simpson and one brother Gasko preceeded her in death.

Burial was in Union Cemetery at Iowa Fall. Memorial services were held in Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church at Hubbard at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 29 with Rev. A Kruetzmann in charge.
