HUBBARD—Marjorie Adella McMillen, 94, formerly of Hubbard, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 17, at Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard with burial in the Hubbard Cemetery.

Marjorie was born May 4, 1910, on the Cottage Ridge Farm that belonged to her parents, William E. and Mary Jane “Jennie” (Mossman) Brightwell. She received her education by attending Cottage Community School and Hubbard High School, where she graduated with the class of 1927. On June 12, 1934, Marjorie was united in marriage to N. Langdon McMillen at the Cottage Ridge Farm by the Rev. Dewey Lamprecht. After their marriage, they farmed her home place, seven miles north of Hubbard. In 1955, they moved into Hubbard.

Marjorie had a love for music and poetry. She was a piano teacher, played the clarinet in the Ellis Church Orchestra, and was a pianist and Sunday school teacher at the Point Pleasant Church. Once the couple moved into town, they became members of the Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard. Marjorie had also been a 4-H leader.

Marjorie lived in Hubbard until 1992 when she was put under the care of the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.

Survivors include a daughter, Marlene Little and husband Romayne of Rockford, Ill., along with many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Langdon “Mac”; six sisters, Mabel, Hazel, Floy, Alma, Evelyn and Marie; an infant brother, William Edward Brightwell Jr.; and special “brother” Sievert Johnson.

Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard was in charge of the arrangements.
