Tena Gertrude Weber

Tena Gertrude Weber, age 97 of Ackley, passed away Jan. 23, 2005, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. She was born Dec. 6, 1907, in rural Wellsburg, the daughter of George and Hattie (Hayenga) Wubbens.

She received her education in rural Wellsburg, and married Floyd Weber on Sept. 8, 1931, in Elizabeth, Ill. After school, she worked for her aunt and uncle in Cedar Falls, and later in Ackley when they opened the M&M Cafe. She and her husband made their home in Ackley, where she helped him at the Chevrolet dealership and the business he had begun that later became Weber Motor Co.. In 1935, her family moved to Iowa Falls where they started a second dealership. Health forced retirement in 1938, and the couple moved back to Ackley.

After her husband’s death in 1943, Weber worked for Trumbull’s Ben Franklin and then Mershon’s Variety Store for 36 years until retiring in 1983.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Weber is survived by daughters Thelma (Wayne) Shugar of Ackley and Marge (Don) Boheman of Ackley; sister Carrie Boekhoff of Ackley, six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers John, Clarence, and Fred Wubbens; and granddaughter Patty Boheman.

Funeral services were held Jan. 26, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ackley, with the Rev. Jenni Walker-Noyes officiating. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery in Ackley.

The Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley was in charge of the arrangements.
