Herman Rewerts

November 11, 1919-February 6, 2005

PARKERSBURG—Herman Rivert Rewerts, 85, of Parkersburg died of cancer Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at his home. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg with the Rev. Frank Pott officiating. Military rites were provided by Parkersburg American Legion Post No. 285. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg.

Herman was born south of Dumont in Butler County on Nov. 11, 1919, the son of Leonard and Bessie Diekman Rewerts. He was raised on a farm west of Kesley where he received his education in a rural school in Madison Township. On Sept. 25, 1942, Herman entered the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the South Pacific area. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 30, 1945, after 3 1?2 years of service. Herman was united in marriage with Marjorie Berends on Feb. 21, 1947, in Butler County. The couple farmed for 32 years in Butler and Grundy counties. In 1979, they moved to their present home in Parkersburg where Herman worked for O’s Gold Seed Co. and Payco Seed Company. Herman was a member of Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg and the Parkersburg American Legion Post No. 285. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and collecting John Deere memorabilia.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of Parkersburg; one daughter, Sharon and husband Dennis Schipper of Parkersburg; four grandchildren, including Douglas and wife Camilla Schipper of Ackley; seven great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one step-great-great-granddaughter; one brother; one sister; one sister-in-law, Doris Rewerts of Iowa Falls; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a grandson.

Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.
