David Clampitt

October 14, 1919-January 27, 2005

NEW PROVIDENCE—David Dean Clampitt, 85, of New Providence died Jan. 27, 2005, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 31, at Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church. Burial followed in the Honey Creek Cemetery.

Dean was born Oct. 14, 1919, in New Providence, the son of Arthur and Anna (Faris) Clampitt. Dean graduated from New Providence High School with the class of 1937. He attended Iowa State Ag College for one year. Dean returned home to the family farm to work with his father. He was united in marriage to Helen Cornmesser on Jan. 1, 1943, in New Providence and was married for 62 years. The couple remained on the family farm south of New Providence until they moved to Conrad in May 2004. Over the years, Dean was able to farm with his son, Leslie. The farm operation included dairy cows, beef cattle, hogs, sheep, corn, soybeans and hay. In his later years, Dean raised quarter horses and border collies. He enjoyed outdoor activities including riding horses and border collies. He was an active member of the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church, Honey Creek Cemetery, Horsemen of Iowa and various community organizations.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, of Conrad; three children, Leslie and wife Kay of New Providence, Jean Gunderson and husband Lynn of Hudson, Wis., and Harris Clampitt of Worthington, Minn.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Reba Martin.

Boeke Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
