HAMPTON - Howard William Werner, 84, of Hampton died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at his home in Hampton. Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hampton with Rev. Jon Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Allison Cemetery in Allison. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 31, from 3-6 p.m. at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or a charitable organization of your choice.
Howard was born Sept. 8, 1919, at Allison to Albert and Ann (Ortman) Werner. He was raised in Allison and graduated from the Allison High School. On Aug. 29, 1937, Howard was united in marriage to Genevieve Roalf at Eldora. Howard farmed for 17 years at Allison. He was active in the Farm Bureau and Farm Services, serving as president of both organizations. He was a F.S. tank wagon salesman in Butler County, and later became sales manager for F.S. Services in Fayette County. Howard became manager of Franklin County F.S. and was employed in that capacity for 31 years. For nine years he was councilman and mayor for the City of Hampton. Howard was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, serving as an elder and on the building committee.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve of Hampton; one daughter, Sheryol Buchanan and husband Paul of Escondido, Calif.; a grandson, Troy Buchanan and wife Sally of San Jose, Calif.; a granddaughter, Heidi Adams and husband Steve of Fallbrook, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Parker Adams and Cody and Tyler Buchanan; a brother, Robert Werner of Tama; and a sister, Norma Nehring of Iowa Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary Lee; a foster son, Jerry Mettlin; and one brother, Kenneth Werner.
