ELDORA - Leland F. Vinton, 86, of Eldora died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Eldora with Pastor Anne Lippincott officiating. Burial followed at Eastlawn Memory Garden in Eldora.
Leland was born Oct. 4, 1917, in rural Whitten to Fred and Alice (Cakerice) Vinton. He graduated from Eldora High School and began farming in the Whitten area. On May 17, 1941, he was united in marriage to Dorwin R. McKenzie in Princeton, Mo. They remained in the Whitten area where Leland raised grain, hogs and cattle. He retired in the early 1980s, and they moved to Eldora where he remained until his death. Leland was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Sue Hollis and husband Gary of Tuscumbia, Mo.; three sons, David and wife Marlys of Indianola, Dan of Grundy Center, and Richard of Eldora; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his wife, Dorwin; his parents; two sisters, Lois Vinton and Carol Stonebrook; one brother, Darwin; and granddaughter, Roni Sue Winters.
