VAN METER - Seth Conrad McCartney, 3, of Van Meter died as a result of an accident Monday, Sept. 29, 2003. Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 2, at Westchester Evangelical Free Church in Des Moines. Burial was at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel.

Seth was born Oct. 21, 1999, to Marc and Stephanie McCartney of Van Meter. Seth enjoyed life and was an encourager. He also loved AWANA Cubbies and the Hawkeyes.

He is survived by his parents, Marc and Stephanie McCartney; his brothers and sisters, Faith, Elijah, Samuel and Grace; his grandparents, W.R. (Butch) and Marilyn McCartney of Hubbard, and Linda Bauer and the late Glenn Bauer; and his aunts and uncles Mike and Cindy McCartney of Hubbard and Tim and Chris (McCartney) Gustafson of Jewell.

Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home of Des Moines was in charge of arrangements.

Adel boy killed in farming accident

ADEL - A 3-year old DeSoto boy, Seth McCartney ,died after he was hit by a skid loader at his home, according to a Dallas County officer.

The accident occurred this past Monday. The boy's father, Marcus, was operating the skid loader and did not notice his son was behind him when he backed up. The child died at the scene. The death has been ruled an accident.

Butch and Marilyn McCartney of Hubbard are grandparents.
