HUBBARD - Lucile Miller Shelton Engelking, 92, of Hubbard died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at the Hubbard Care Center. The funeral service will be Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard at 10:30 a.m. Burial is at the Hubbard Cemetery. Rev. John Attaway will officiate. Lucile ÒLukeÓ was born May 30, 1911, in Hubbard to Gus and Abby (Ibach) Miller. As a child she and her siblings helped their father in his barbershop. She graduated from Hubbard High School in 1929 and attended nursing school at the University of Iowa, until forced to quit college during the Depression. While in nursing school, she met and married James LeRoy Shelton in 1936 and they lived in Rockford, Ill., and later moved back to Hubbard. They were divorced in 1950.

Luke went to work as a nurse in a doctorÕs office in Hubbard, and upon his death, worked for Drs. Gude, Graham and Dunley. In 1963, Luke married Walter Engelking of Hubbard. They enjoyed Shetland ponies and traveling. He died in 1970. Luke cared for her father in her home until 1976 and later moved to the Hubbard Care Center. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, Bridge, shopping and time with friends. She was active in Eastern Star.

Survivors include daughters Marilyn and husband David Roupe and their children, Rebecca and Scott of Crestline, Calif., and Margery and husband Daniel Thomas of South Pasadena, Calif. Preceding Lucile in death were her husband, Walter; her parents; a sister, Mildred (Mid); and two brothers, Leland (Dutch) and Carroll (Carey).

Boeke Funeral Home of Hubbard is handling arrangements.
