GRUNDY CENTER-Austin Dean Tjepkes, 18, of Grundy Center died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, in a vehicular accident southeast of Grundy Center. Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Grundy Center High School gymnasium with the Rev. Larry Hoop of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church and the Rev. David Turner of the American Lutheran Church officiating. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. A memorial fund has been established at the Liberty Bank in Grundy Center.

Austin was born Aug. 21, 1986, in Waterloo, the son Curt and Nancy (Dinnes) Tjepkes. Austin was a senior at the Grundy Center High School. He was the secretary for the FFA and was active in the local 4-H club. He was also active in the youth group at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. Austin enjoyed his animals and playing with his little brother.

Survivors include his father, Curt and wife Julie Tjepkes of Grundy Center; his mother, Nancy and husband Dan Hemann of Grundy Center; a sister, Christina Tjepkes of Cedar Falls; a brother, Nate Hemann of Grundy Center; five step-brothers, Trent Burg of Des Moines, Thad and Adam Burg of Waterloo, Jason Hemann of Dike, and Justin Hemann of Cedar Falls; paternal grandparents, Arnold and Minetta Tjepkes of Grundy Center; and maternal grandmother, Barbara and husband Jim Musch of Dunkerton. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Dale Dinnes, and sister Whitney.

The Engelkes-Ables Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
