CHARLES CITY - Chester Roy Goodno, 95, of Charles City died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd with the Rev. Solomon Odoom officiating. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Chester was born Dec. 4, 1908, at Bronson, Kan., to Otis and Bessie (Noble) Goodno. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1930. On Nov. 26, 1938, Chester was united in marriage to Kathleen Anderson at Decorah. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. The couple farmed from 1946-1974 in Floyd County. Chester did electrical work for Curry Electric of Floyd. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cribbage and pinochle, watching television and having coffee with family and friends. Chester was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church and served on the church board. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, Floyd School Board, township trustee and the American Legion. Chester was the last surviving charter member of the Floyd Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen of Charles City; one daughter Kären Nott and husband Lyle of Iowa Falls; two grandsons, John Nott and wife Kathy of Lowden and Joel Nott and wife Jasie of Ames; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Lydia Moen; and stepbrothers, Alan and Richard Moen.

Hauser Funeral Home of Charles City is in charge of arrangements.
