JANE CLINGERMAN

Jane Clingerman, age 77, died on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at her home near New Providence, IA. (Cora) Jane Perkins was born May 29, 1937, in Eldora, Iowa, the eldest daughter of Harold and Ruth (Metzer) Perkins. Jane graduated from the Eldora Consolidated School in 1955. On June 6, 1958 she was united in marriage to Dean S. Clingerman. They had no children of their own but a strong relationship developed with the children of Ken and Linda Sly. Those children spent time with Dean and Jane and were considered "their kids." Those children are Tony Sly, Lisa (Sly) Kopp, Niki (Sly) Lindsey and Tiffany Jo (Sly) Gardner. When those children grew up and married, and had children of their own, they became the "grandchildren" of Jane and Dean. They were lovingly called "Grandma Jane" and "Papa Dean." Dean and Jane farmed all of their lives. Jane worked with Dean on the farm when she was not working doing other things. Operating machinery was her favorite activity. She owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store in Eldora and had a wholesale ceramic greenware business that she operated out of a remodeled corn crib on the farm. She also worked in a sales position for several companies traveling in Iowa and Nebraska. She retired in 2000. After that time she spent many hours on the lawn mower and with the grandkids and her constant companion, a little white Bichon named Caesar. Jane and Dean were both actively involved in Kiwanis. They devoted many hours to the organization and held offices at the Club level, as well as in the District organization at Lt. Governors. Jane retired from Kiwanis in 2010. Dean passed away very suddenly on August 16, 2007. Jane remained on the farm until her death. She readily admitted that she would never have been able to do that if it weren't for the help of Robert and Curt Winter, who farmed the cropland, and her "family" of children and grandchildren. Jane had very strong feelings about cancer and its treatment due to watching friends and relatives suffer through the "cures." Jane began to suspect she had the disease but chose to ignor the symptoms and live out her life as best she could until June 2013 when she had some symptoms that she couldn't ignor. Still following her own wishes about cancer she only used medication to keep her as pain free as possible. She did very well with this protocol with the help of Iowa River Hospice until her death on March 7, 2015 when she had to give up the fight and passed away at her home. Jane is survived by her sister, Celia (Virgil) Stoneking of Cordova, TN; her nephews Kent (Amanda) Stoneking of Arlington, TN; Kurt (Simone) Stoneking of Mt. Laural, NJ and Keith Stoneking of Chicago, IL. She had three grand-nieces Hanna Grace Stoneking of Arlington, TN, Isabelle Paulino-Stoneking, Julia Stoneking of Mt. Laural, NJ and two grand-nephews Bradley and Caleb Stoneking of Arlington, TN. Also her faithful dog Caesar, who was by her side until her death. Jane is also survived by her extended family including Niki (Eric) Lindsey and children Zoe Sly, Marissa, Emmitt Dean (named for Dean Clingerman) and Nora Lindsey; Tiffany Jo (Joshua) Gardner and children Tayeshun Sly, Cooper, Dekon, Driver, and Nova Gardner; Lisa (Jason) Kopp and children Hudson and Kaden Kopp; Tony (Michelle) Sly and children Merak, Madden and Toryn Sly. Ken and Linda Sly are part of the family, as are Eron Lindsey, Heather Lindsey and children Caleb and Hailey Lindsey. Jane was preceded in death by her husband Dean, her parents, numerous cousins and granddaughter Caris Gardner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Jane Clingerman Memorial Fund c/o Robert Winter, 2446 Co. Hwy D55, New Providence, IA 50206. The funds will be distributed to the Wound Warrior Project.

Service:
Graveside services and interment will be held on Thursday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Eldora Cemetery in Eldora, IA.
