Mrs. Hemke Bakker Dead

Mrs. Hemke Bakker died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. H. Eekhoff, at Steamboat Rock, last Saturday. Funeral services conducted by Rev. A. E. Kruse were held at the Presbyterian church in Steamboat Rock Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs. Bakker was born in Wolthausen, Germany, July 9th, 1845, and she was in her 81st year at the time of her death. She came to this country in 1869 and located in Illinois where she was married to same year to E. H. Bakker. The couple remained in Illinois until 1884 when they came to Iowa and located on a farm in West Shiloh township adjoining the county line. In 1898 the family left the farm and moved to Steamboat Rock. Mr. Bakker died two years ago last March. H. E. Bakker, a son, survives his parents.
