Mrs. Janna Wilts Dies At Steamboat

Janna nee Jaspers Wilts, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Jaspers, was born on October 26, 1884, on a farm about four miles northeast of Steamboat Rock. She attended rural school nearby and grew to womanhood in that community.

On February 28, 1906, she was married to John Wilts, and four children were born to this union. They farmed north of Cleves, Iowa, and in 1911 moved to a farm east of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, where they lived until 1945 when they retired. From that time, they made their home in the village of Steamboat Rock.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilts joined the Eastfriesland Pres. church, and later became charter members of the Pres. church in Steamboat Rock. After several years of active membership in this church, they transferred to the First Christian Ref. church of Wellsburg. Later they transferred membership back to the Presbyterian church in Steamboat Rock.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilts were privileged to observe their 50th wedding anniversary in 1956. Mrs. Wilts was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1958; by six brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by four children; Fanny (Mrs. Roy Luiken) of Eldora; Abraham; Ordie (Mrs. Carl Reiter), both of Steamboat R. and Otto of Clarksville; by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; by a sister, Mrs. Joe DeNeui, of Wellsburg, and by a brother, Ben Jaspers, of Steamboat Rock; and by a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Wilts had been in failing health for the past five years. She had undergone surgery last January and made reasonable recovery, but about a month ago her condition again grew worse. She remained in her own home, where she passed away in the early morning October 15. She attained the age of 77 years, 11 months and 19 days.
