ACKLEY-Lauretta Schachterle, 83, of Ackley, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at her home. Memorial services were held Saturday, May 19, at St. John's United Church of Christ with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, both at Ackley. Rev. Michael Dack officiated.

Lauretta was born Nov. 30, 1917, in rural Butler County near Ackley to Richard and Florence Miller Hartema. On Nov. 2, 1937, she married Raymond Schachterle at the Reformed Church in Dumont. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley. Lauretta was a Girls Scout leader; past member of the Memorial Board and Garden Club. Her hobbies were making wedding cakes, gardening and wood carving.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond; a son, Ronald and wife, Karen, of Ackley; a daughter, Patricia Awe and special friend, Tom Hansen, of Ackley; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Ervin Hartema of Waseca, Minn.; three sisters, Lillian Voy of Ackley, Edna Knoll of Hampton, and Dorothy Knoll and husband, Bill, of Bradford; and a sister-in-law, Carelyn Hartema of Aplington. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lawrence Hartema; and a sister, Amanda Wildebor.

Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley, was in charge of arrangements.
