ACKLEY- Julia M. Rieken, 91, of Ackley died Monday, Oct. 16, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 18 at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley. Rev. Bruce Baillie officiated.

Julia was born Sept. 21, 1909, in Butler County to Henry and Lena Muller Osterland. She graduated from Ackley High School; received her BA degree from Westmar College at LeMars; and attended college at the University of Iowa; Drake; and the University of Southern California.She taught school for 30 years at New Hartford, Marshalltown, Aplington and other area schools, retiring in 1971. On Aug. 21, 1958, she married Harvey Rieken at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. She was a member of the Bible Study Group at the Christian Reformed Church; Farm Bureau; 4-H, Campfire and other youth and church activities; and had worked on the Federal Republican Presidential Task Force. She was a member and attended the Church of the Open Bible in Iowa Falls and the Christian Reformed Church in Ackley. She liked to travel.

She is survived by her husband, Harvey. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Pearl Kraft, Viola Strassburg, and Luella Bakley and a stepdaughter, Marlene Gray.

Sietsema Funeral Home of Ackley was in charge of arrangements.
