ALDEN— Edna Nicholson, 86, of Alden, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 23, at the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ in Alden, with burial in the Alden Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Alden is in charge of the arrangements.

Edna was born on April 27, 1922, on a farm near Buckeye, the daughter of Frank and Eda (Runge) Bessman. She was united in marriage to George Nicholson on Nov. 4, 1941, in Osage. Edna sold Avon for many years and baby-sat for many children. She was a member of the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ in Alden and was active in the VFW Auxiliary.

Edna is survived by her son, Duane and wife Kay of Alden; one grandson, Jeffrey Nicholson and wife Anita of Iowa City; two granddaughters, Julie Reynolds and husband Robert of Iowa Falls and Jennifer Sievers and husband Jeff of Norwalk; seven great-grandchildren, John and Shane Nicholson, Kassi, Shelby and Parker Reynolds, and Abigale and Trey Sievers; two sisters, Martha Hetland of Radcliffe and Erma Burke of Bentonville, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters and six brothers.
