June 26, 1916-February 28, 2008

POPEJOY—Ellsworth G. Helm, 91, of Popejoy, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were held Monday, March 3, at the United Methodist Church in Popejoy with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Full Military Rites were provided by the Dows American Legion Post No. 523. The Surls Funeral Home in Alden was in charge of the arrangements.

Ellsworth George Helm was born on June 26, 1916, in Plymouth, the son of C. Almond and Tilla (Rossum) Helm. He graduated from the Plymouth High School and was in the Air Corps from 1942-45. Ellsworth was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Keeney on Aug. 23, 1941, in Plymouth, and later to Eva Bridges on April 13, 1951, in Dows. He was co-owner of Ackerman’s Inc. Ellsworth was a member of the Dows American Legion Post No. 523 and the Popejoy United Methodist Church.

Ellsworth is survived by his two daughters, Carol Vanderloop and husband Tom of Alden, and Becky Kalous and husband Carroll of Alden; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Fonda Hickethier of Alden; and son-in-law, Roger Deike of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; a son, Marlyn Hickethier; a daughter, Cheryl Deike; an infant child; and infant twin granddaughters.
