July 18, 1861OMINOUS – Quite a crowd of peopled gathered at the corner of Main and Fifth streets Friday evening to see the Herald office cleaned out by the Hardin county boys. But owing to the united efforts of Mayor Stout, Deputy U. S. Marshal Conger, Sheriff Cummings, Marshal Swivel, and Captain Stump, a riot was averted. Several contemptible fools in the office had the hardihood to display pistols and other arms just before the crowd gathered. If this fact had been generally known their lives would not have been worth a straw. The Herald owes its safety entirely to order living Republicans, but it will not have the gratitude to own it.
