DIED. - At Garner, Iowa, Feb. 3d, 1890. Mrs. James E. Moak. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon and buried in the Concord Cemetery attended by a large gathering of mourning relatives, friends, and neighbors. Her death caused sorrow in every home in Garner and her kind ways and loving face will long be remembered.
Nettie M., daughter of Joseph and Sarah Bowen, was born near Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa, May 25, 1868 and died in Garner, Iowa, Feb. 3d, 1890; and so at the time of her death was aged 22 years 8 months and 7 days. On the 7th of Nov. 1888, she was married to James E. Moak of Garner, and came with him to occupy a pleasant home which he had already prepared for her. Few persons in common life have at their setting out together, more flattering prospects of a long and happy union than had this couple, but how uncertain is all earthly promise, how transitory is all earthly good! Mrs. Moak showed early tendencies to piety but did not make a public profession of religion till about three years since, when she was received into the Methodist Episcopal Church and was baptized by Rev. A.B. Albrook, Ph.D., then her pastor, by whom she was subsequently married, and who also, by request of the family performed her last funeral rites, preaching an impressive and eloquent sermon to a large and sympathizing audience, from the text, “O! Grave where is thy victory”! (1st Cor. 15th chapter and 2d clause of 55th verse) after which her remains were laid away in the beautiful cemetery of Garner, to rest till the morning of the first resurrection (Hancock Signal, 5 Feb 1890).
