Morris Smith, Retired Farmer, Dies at Britt

Britt - Morris Smith, 86, retired farmer, died Monday morning at the Hancock Memorial Hospital following an illness of three weeks.

Mr. Smith was born March 10, 1871, to Mr. and Mrs. Simeon Smith, Fairbury, Ill. In 1902 he was married to Mary Tumbleson at Flanagan, Ill. They farmed in that area and were the parents of three sons, Harold, Richard and Melvin. Melvin died at the age of 4 months. Mrs. Smith died in 1912.

Mr. Smith came to the Britt area in Feb. 1913. He was married to Mrs. Ossie Sanders at Garner, April 18, 1913. They have farmed near Britt since that time until his retirement.

Mrs. Smith died May 5, 1953. He is survived by two sons, Harold, Clear Lake; Richard, Wesley; one daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Viola) Hall, Britt; a stepson, William Peck, Crystal Lake; 27 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

He is also survived by three brothers, Ren, 96, Britt; Delbert, Albuquerque, N.W.; William, Savannah, Ill.; and one sister, Mrs. Louis Sigler, Peoria, Ill.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and active in the IOOF and Rebekahs at Britt.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Methodist Church, preceded by a prayer service for the immediate family at the Boughton Funeral Home. The Rev. R. Maynard Bell will conduct the services and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
