G. W. Johnson Rites to Be Wednesday
Funeral services for George W. Johnson, 77, former resident of Kanawha who died Monday at the Good Samaritan Home, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kanawha Methodist Church. The Rev. Melvin N. Tatley of Mason City will officiate.
Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 6, 1879 in the Netherlands, son of Wiert and Stientje (Abbas) Johnson. He came to the United States in 1882 with his parents, who settled in Hardin County. He attended school there and later moved to a farm in Wright County.
He was married to Myrtle Beving Nov. 28, 1907, at Breckenridge, Minn. They made their home near Kanawha, where they lived until retiring from farming in 1948. They moved to the Good Samaritan Home Dec. 26, 1953.
Mr. Johnson was a member of the Kanawha Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, son, Wiert Johnson, Sioux City; grandson, a sister, Mary Eckhoff, and two brothers, John and Wiert Johnson, Clarion.
The McAuley-Scanlan Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the Kanawha Cemetery.
