Former Britt Banker Dies

Britt - H. C. Armstrong, 82, former president of the First National Bank here, died Monday at his home following a heart attack.

Funeral services are incomplete with the Boughton Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Armstrong was born Feb. 24, 1875, at Greene, the son of Anderson J. and Myrtie Clark Armstrong. He was graduated from Emmetsburg High School. He is a veteran of the Spanish American War, having enlisted in April, 1898, and was discharged Oct. 30, 1898. He was made captain of his company. On March 21, 1899, he was married to Mable Louise Henry at Emmetsburg.

From 1903 to 1906 he was cashier in the Farmers Merchants Bank at Rake and from 1906 to 1913 he was cashier of the First National Bank in Titonka. He served five terms as mayor of Titonka.

He came to Britt where he was cashier, later vice president and president of the First National Bank. He served from 1924 to 1932 as mayor of Britt. He was director of the Iowa Association of Personal Finance Companies and operated the Armstrong Real Estate and Insurance Agency. Mr. Armstrong served as president of the Britt Commercial Club. He is a member of the Congregational Church.

Survivors include his wife and three sons, Neil G., Tacoma, Wash,; Dean M., Des Moines, and Gordon C., Joliet, Ill., and six grandchildren.
