BROOKS, FROHLING, ABOTT, MAITLAND, OLSON, LUICK, STARNES

The many friends of Mr. Harry Brooks were sorry to learn of his death, which occurred at the Madelia hospital Sunday March 21 1948 at 3:30 in the afternoon. Mr. Brooks who was 69 years, 7 months and 24 days of age at the time of his death, had submitted to a major operation in July, 1946, at Beloit, Wisconsin. Since that time he was in fairly good health. He was confined to his bed at home one week, and he was at the Madelia hospital only six days preceding his death. The cause of his death was a lingering illness.

Harrison Wesley Brooks, son of James and Elwy Brooks, was born in Hancock County Iowa, and he attended school there. He was united in marriage to Ticia Frohling Oct. 8, 1896 in Belmont, Iowa. Mr. Brooks engaged in farming in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, until 1926 when he and his family moved to Madelia. He then worked as a painter until about two years ago. Mrs. Brooks passed away April 23, 1946 and soon after that Mr.Brooks started failing. He moved to Beloit, Wisconsin and lived at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.H. Maitland. In April, 1947, he returned to Madelia and since that time he has been living at the A.J. Abott home. Mr. Brooks was a member of First Baptist Church in Madelia. He was a superintendent of the Sunday school for a number of years, and he also served as deacon. He was active in church work and was a good and loving husband and father.

Left to mourn his death are the following sons and daughters: Mrs. W H. Maitland (Sylvia) of Beloit, Wis., Cyrus Brooks of Shabbana, Ill., Warren, Paul, and James of Dekalb, Ill., Lloyd Brooks of Aurora, Ill.,Edward Brooks of Washington, Missouri., Oliver Brooks of Wedron, Ill. One son and one daughter died in 1928. Mr. Brooks is survived by 20 grandchildren and the following named sisters; Mrs Laura Olson, Belmont, Iowa, Mrs. Mabel Luick, Mason City, Iowa and Mrs.Joe Starnes of Clear Lake, Iowa.

Funeral Services were conducted Wednesday afternoon , March 24 at 2 o’clock at the Sandberg Funeral Home, with Rev. Warren R Anderson officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bert Ash, Harold Bean, Alva Chase, Virgil Chase, Jess Clark and Lester Guyer.

Those who attended the funeral from a distant are; the eight children of Mr. Brooks, Mr and Mrs. Omar Olson, Luverne Smith, Mrs. Peter Steenblock, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Koenen, Mr. and Mrs. Raymaond Pals all of Belmond, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Chas Luick, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Luick of Mason City, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Patton and son Wayne, Mr and Mrs. L.E. Huntley, Mr Gerald Brooks of Clear Lake, Iowa Mrs. Tom Lee of Mankato, and Pvt. Leslie Brooks, a grandson of Fort Knox, Kentucky.
