Evelyn M. Smidt, 1921-2006

Evelyn M. Smidt, 85, of Britt, died on Friday, February 10, 2006, at the Westview Care Center in Britt.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 13, at the Britt United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. The Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, Britt, was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn, the daughter of Floyd G. and Lucy Mary (Boutilier) Charbonneaux, was born on January 1, 1921, in Ottawa, Illinois. At a young age, she moved with her family to the Britt area where she attended school.

On August 20, 1937, Evelyn married Ole Smidt, Sr. in Britt. She worked various places in Britt, including the milk plant, hospital, nursing home and also did child care.

Evelyn enjoyed walking, cooking, baking and making quilts. She loved to feed and watch the birds and squirrels. She attended the Britt United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Emily Redmond of Charles City; two sons, Ole Smidt, Jr. and his wife, Mary of Britt and Allan Smidt and his wife, Susan of Tilden, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one brother, Roy Charbonneaux of Britt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ole Sr. in 1992; two sisters, Fern Smith and Eva Schleuger; brother, Floyd Charbonneaux, Jr.; and an infant brother.
