Imogene L. Schubert, 1918-2006

Imogene L. Schubert, 87, of Britt, died on Saturday, August 12, 2006. at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, August 15, at the United Methodist Church in Britt with the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. The Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt was in charge of the arrangements.

Imogene Lucille Fox, the daughter of Lyal and Anna (Sillman) Fox, was born on November 29, 1918, on a farm northwest of Britt. She attended the rural schools of Orthel Township and graduated from the Britt High School in 1936. She continued her education at the Britt Junior College and later received her bachelor's degree from Mankato State University in 1974.

Imogene taught in the rural schools near Britt from 1937 to 1940.

On September 18, 1940, she was married to Richard Stanley Schubert at her parent's farm home near Britt. They lived on a farm northeast of Britt until 1978 when they moved into town.

Imogene taught school in the Garner-Hayfield School District from 1963 to 1980, when she retired. She enjoyed taking senior citizens for drives in the country and baking bear bread and fruit tarts for special occasions.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt where she was active in the UMW, taught Sunday School and was a Sunday School Secretary for 27 years. She was Curator of the Armstrong House for 15 years and Secretary of the Hancock County Historical Society Board. She also belonged to the HCMH Auxiliary serving as Treasurer, was a 4-H Leader and was active in the Woman's Club and King's Daughters.

Imogene is survived by her six children, Joyce (Allen) Bolte of Lenexa, Kansas, Russell (Cindy) Schubert of Britt, Kathleen (Harold) Huisinga of Allen, Texas, Julie Schubert (Dennis Goodrich) of Ames, Mary (Michael) Anderson of Jupiter, Florida and Betty Schubert of Madison, Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Susan) Fox of Willard, Wisconsin; three sisters, Doris (Earl) Schulz of Britt, Marjorie (Robert) Snyder of Truro and Carol Schulz of Corwith; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard on April 19, 1995; her parents; and a younger brother, Earl Fox.
