Donald A. Haes, 84, of Garner, died on Friday, March 10, 2006, at the Concord Care Center, Garner.
Funeral services were held on Monday at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Fr. Jerry Blake officiating. Music was provided by organist, Carolyn Kumsher who accompanied the church choir. Ushers were Robert Kral and Lawrence Engstler.
Honorary bearers were Aimee Noehren, Amanda Haes, Angie Cornelius, Chelsea Cornelius, Maddie Haes and Brooke Haes. Casket bearers were Thad Haes, Beau Haes, Chad Noehren, Jason Haes, Jeff Haes and Craig Haes. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Donald Arthur Haes, the son of Arthur and Bertha (Goll) Haes, was born on February 9, 1922, on a farm north of Garner. He received his education in the Garner schools. After graduating from the Garner High School in 1939 he began farming.
On February 21, 1944, he married Ann Schmidt at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. They lived on a farm north of Garner until 1974 when they moved into Garner. After retiring from farming in 1984, Don and Ann enjoyed spending their winters in Texas and Arizona. Don loved farming, traveling and fishing.
He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church and had served on the Farmer's Cooperative Elevator Board in Garner.
Survivors include his wife, Ann of Garner; three children, Dick Haes of Ankeny, Bill (Pat) Haes of Garner and Nancy (Dennis) Cornelius of Ankeny; 11 grandchildren, Jeff Haes, Craig Haes, Jason (Melissa) Haes, Maddie Haes, Brooke Haes, Aimee (Chad) Noehren, Thad (Renae) Haes, Amanda Haes, Beau Haes, Angie Cornelius and fiance, Eric Miller and Chelsea Cornelius; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Carleton Haes.
