Curtis C. Greimann, 1915-2005

Curtis C. Greimann, 89, of Garner, died on Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, March 30, at the Peace Reformed Church, south of Garner, with the Rev. Jeff DeBoer officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Connie Greiman who will accompany soloist, Tom Renner and congregational hymns. Ushers will be Virgil Stahl and Steve Lenz.

Casket bearers will be Jeff Kracht, Monte Mosher, Dean Mosher, Mark Greimann, Ben Exline, Michael Greimann and Brandon Greimann. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Peace Reformed Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Curtis Calvin Greimann, the son of Rev. Herman and Caroline (Haberkamp) Greimann, was born on September 17, 1915 in Dale, Wisconsin. He was baptized at the Reformed Church in Dale and confirmed in the faith at the Peace Reformed Church. Curtis attended rural schools near Schaller and Garner. He graduated from the Garner High School in 1933. After graduation, he worked as a hired farm hand in the Storm Lake area and then the Garner area until 1936, when he started farming on this father's farm southeast of Garner.

On February 10, 1938, he married Ruth Hall at her parent's farm near Miller. They farmed together for 48 years retiring in 1983. In October of 1995, they moved from the farm into Garner and in October of 2004 to the Cardinal Grove Assisted Living. Curtis entered the Concord Care Center on March 7, 2005. Curtis enjoyed life and "people". He especially enjoyed times with his family.

He was a life time member of the Peace Reformed Church and served in many positions in support of his church. Curtis loved his Lord and Savior and he and Ruth set an example for their family. Curtis served on the Farmers Co-op Elevator Board in Garner, Ventura School Board, Hancock County Fair Board, North Iowa Mental Health Center Board, County Compensation Board, Concord Care Committee and was active in the Farm Bureau. He was a 4-H Leader and a member of the Garner Rotary Club.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ruth of Garner; five children, Delores (Dennis) Mosher of Clear Lake, Vernon (Shirley) Greimann of Eldora, Calvin (Nadia) Greimann of Lititz, Pennsylvania, Phyllis (Bill) Byrd of Newcastle, Washington and Barbara (Wayne) Hassebrock of Kamrar; seven grandchildren, Rochelle (Jeff) Kracht of Clear Lake, Monte (Dorcey) Mosher of Des Moines, Dean (Hollie) Mosher of Clear Lake, Mark (Lana) Greimann of Huxley, Kristi (Ben) Exline of Streamwood, Illinois, Michael Greimann of Overland Park, Kansas and Brandon Greimann of West Chester, Pennsylvania; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; five step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Eugene (Doris) Greimann of Garner; sisters, Charlotte Swanson of Austin, Minnesota and Dorothy Anderson of Garner; step-brother, William Huenemann of Indiana; step-sister, Ruth Huenemann of California; step-brother-in-law, Alvert Streyle of Minnesota; step-sisters-in-law, Lois Huenemann of Garner, Frances Huenemann of Virginia and Mary Lou Huenemann of Wisconsin; Ruth's sister, Anna Mae (Curtis) Upmeyer of Garner; brother, Orville (Josephine) Hall of Garner; brothers-in-law, Clarence Schroeder of Klemme and Dick Halloway of California; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herman on May 12, 1927; mother, Caroline on January 30, 1924: step-mother, Anna (Maurer) Greimann Huenemann on April 21, 1971; sister, Adeline (Charles) Carothers; brother-in-law, Norman Anderson; step-brothers, Reuben, Calvin, Karl, Elmer, Edward and Lorenz Huenemann; step-sisters, Miriam Huber, Lois Streyle, Erma Buehrer and Dorothea Volkert; and Ruth's sisters, Olive Halloway and Alice Schroeder.
