Kathryn Goll, 1908-2006

Kathryn Goll, 98, of Garner, died on Monday, October 2, 2006, at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Private family services were held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Tim Diehl of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church officiating. Burial was in the Peace Reformed Cemetery south of Garner.

Kathryn Anna Christina, the daughter of Fred and Maren (Bach) Petersen, was born on May 19, 1908 at Blairstown.

At an early age she moved with her family to a farm southeast of Garner. She attended the rural schools near her home and graduated from the Garner High School, where she received her normal teaching certificate. Kathryn continued her education at the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls and then taught in the rural schools near Garner.

On October 18, 1927, she was married to Harvey Addis Goll at the Peace Reformed Church south of Garner. They farmed south of Garner until 1960 when they moved into Garner. Kathryn worked for the Garner-Hayfield School System for many years. She enjoyed baking pies, flowers and music.

She was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner, where she taught Bible School and belonged to the Women's Fellowship.

Kathryn is survived by her children, Calvin "Johnnye" Goll of Garner, Roberta (Milford) Hegg of Concord, California, Marjorie Kallas of Mason City, Sheryl (Vernon) Hanna of Woden and Karen Sue (Jim) Loar of Shreveport, Louisiana; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey on March 20, 1979; parents; a daughter-in-law; a son-in-law; a great-granddaughter; two brothers; and three sisters.
