Gertrude C. Flood, 1912-2005

Gertrude C. Flood, of Garner, died on Saturday, January 8, 2005, at the Concord Care Center, Garner. She was 92.

Her funeral was held on Tuesday, January 11, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner, with the Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Lector was Pat Doble. Music was provided by organist, Carolyn Kumsher who accompanied the church choir. Ushers were Robert Kral and Lawrence Engstler. Casket bearers were Dan Kadrlik, Thomas Kadrlik, Michael Naig, Matt Naig, Jayme Lentz, Kris Bro and Bill Pappas. Burial was in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. The Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Gertrude Cecilia Flood, the daughter of Michael Henry and Katherine Gertrude (Engstler) Tobin, was born on January 10, 1912, at Garner. She graduated from the Garner High School in 1930 and that fall began work in the office of the Hancock County Recorder in Garner. She worked in the recorder's office until 1939, when she began her duties in the office of the Hancock County Abstract Company, a position she held until she retired in 1976.

On September 9, 1969, she was married to Daniel E. Flood at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. Gertrude enjoyed reading and her church and club activities. She was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, CD of A, Rosary Society, Contesters Club, Progressive Club and several card clubs.

Gertrude is survived by her niece, Sandra Naig and her husband, Terry of Cylinder; great-nieces and nephews, Melissa Naig Lentz and her husband, Jayme of Iowa Falls, Matthew Naig and his wife, Carrie and their daughter, Madison of Peoria, Illinois, Michael Naig and his wife, Jaime of Des Moines and Marsha Bro and husband, Kris of Des Moines; her step-daughter, Catherine Kadrlik of Garner; step-grandson, Daniel Kadrlik and his wife, Lori and their three children, Thomas, Kendra and Riannan of Garner; two step-granddaughters, Debra Bannister and her husband, Randy and their daughter, Miranda of Crystal Lake and Debra's daughter, Ryen Kothenbeutel and her daughter, Brianna of Forest City and Polly Kothenbeutel and her children, Amber and Kory of Sheffield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel on October 17, 1983; her father, Michael in 1962; her mother, Kate, in 1975; a brother, Joseph L. Tobin and his wife, Virginia; a sister, Katherine, who died in infancy; and her step son-in-law, Wencl Kadrlik.
