H. D. Foster dies at Seventy Seven

H. D. Foster died at 11:00 p.m. Monday, June 16, at the Park hospital in Mason City, where he had been taken Sunday evening for treatment. His death came in his 78th year, he having been born at Martinsburg, Ky., on November 14, 1863. His age at death was 77 years, 7 months and 2 days.

He grew up in Kentucky and when eighteen years old (in 1881) he moved to Arrowsmith, Ill. Here he met Miss Nishia Goddard and was united to her in marriage on November 13, 1887. They farmed in Illinois for eight years and in 1895 moved to Hancock County, where he has lived since. In 1916 they moved to town and Mr. Foster ran a pool hall in the building now occupied by the Fairchild land office for about three years, then retired.

As a farmer Mr. Foster was exceptionally successful as a livestock man. He was a great lover of horses, groomed them well and got a lot of pride out of training them to do his bidding.

Besides his wife he is mourned by other close relatives. The children are Cleo at Mason City, Iveland Mrs. Wm. Minor at Britt, Mrs. Mary McGuire at Belmond, Mrs. George Hurd, at Bishop, Calif. One brother, James Foster, lives at Minneapolis, and a sister, Mrs. Nerva Flannery, at Glendale, Calif. There are 17 grandchildren.

One son, Leon, gave his life to his country while serving overseas during the World War.

The funeral will be held this afternoon with the Rev. A. R. Larson bringing the message. Burial to be made in Evergreen cemetery.

Time of funeral is 2 p.m. at the home and 2:30 at the Wigton Funeral Home.
