Mrs. John Bode Passes This Life

Woden, Sept. 8 - Carrie Bode, wife of John H. Bode, was born Carrie Berg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Obbo Berg, at Ackley, Iowa, on March 4, 1881.

She grew to womanhood in the vicinity of Ackley and Aplington and received her education in the schools of those communities.

On September 18, 1902, she was united in marriage to John H. Bode, son of Rev. and Mrs. Henry Bode. The couple immediately moved to Woden where Mr. Bode operated a bank for a number of years; farmed for a few years and retired about six years ago. Blessing this home were three children; Henry, Ted and Gertrude.

Mrs. Bode was fairly active in community affairs; was interested in church activities, being a member of the Presbyterian church.

For the past few years she has been in failing health. Last Saturday she became suddenly ill and on Sunday entered the hospital, having suffered a stroke. She improved slightly the first two or three days but grew steadily worse Wednesday and on Thursday morning quietly slept away at the age of 71 years and six months.

Surviving Mrs. Bode is her husband; the children: Henry at Woden, Ted at Ceylon, Minn., and Gertrude, Mrs. Harold Jacobson, Britt. Also surviving are six grandchildren and one great granddaughter; two half brothers, Alfred Berg of Ackley and O. B. Berg of Oceanside, Calif.; as well as several other close relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two half sisters, Mrs. Hanna Oliver and Edith Berg, and one half brother, Herman Berg.

Services were held at the family home at 1:30 on Sunday and at the 2:00 at the Presbyterian church with the Rev. Elmer Peterson, of Buffalo Center conducting the services. Interment was in Bingham township cemetery at Woden.
