L. C. Beaumont, Britt Attorney, Dead At 71

L. C. Beaumont, long time resident of Britt, died at the Park hospital in Mason City early Saturday morning, Feb. 9, having been taken there Friday evening. He suffered a heart attack Sunday and a second attack Friday. Death came in the presence of his wife and pastor. He had reached the age of 71 years, 6 months and 12 days.

Funeral services were held from the Boughton Funeral Home Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. and at the Church of the Nazarene at 2:00 o'clock. The Hancock County Bar Association and other attorneys were seated in a body in the church auditorium. Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery at Britt with the Rev. Jay S. Phipps in charge of the last rites.

Lawrence C. Beaumont was born near Hitesville, in Butler County, Iowa, July 27, 1880, a son to Edmund C. and Laura DeLong-Beaumont. His Christian affiliation from childhood was with the United Brethren Church and his primary education was received in the schools of Butler County where he grew to manhood and later attended Western College at Toledo, Iowa

At the age of 22 he matriculated in the Collage of Veterinary Medicine at Ames, but received his degree as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Chicago Veterinary College in 1907, locating at Britt the same year, where he practiced his profession for twenty years.

On February 13, 1910, Mr. Beaumont was united in marriage to Mrs. Lucille Murray, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Ulrath, the wedding taking place at the bride's home at Hartford, Mich. The Beaumont home was established in Britt.

In 1924 Mr. Beaumont began the study of law and studied under Henry H. Uhlenhopp of Hampton. After completion of the work he was admitted to practice law in Iowa by the Iowa Bar Association. During the same year he opened a law office at Kanawha, practicing there until 1933, when he was elected County Attorney of Hancock County. He then opened a law office at Britt where he has since practiced.

Deceased was a member of the Hancock County Bar Association, the 12th Judicial District Bar Association, and the Hancock County Bar Association, and a past master of Darius Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Britt.

Mr. Beaumont, the last of his family, is survived by his wife, Lucille, at Britt and the adopted son Richard, now manager of the Wilson-Kratzer Funeral Home, El Cerrito, Calif, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
