FALLING TREE KILLS FARMER

William Torkelson, 79, Dies Near Forest City

Forest City - Funeral arrangements were incomplete Saturday for William Torkelson, 78, North Iowa farmer for many years, who was killed Friday when struck by a tree he was cutting down on the farm of his son, Wallace L. Torkelson, south of here in Hancock county. His body was found by a grandson, Larry Torkelson, 14, who went to look for him after he had been gone from the house for nearly 5 hours.

The aged man was working alone on the tree and apparently it fell in a direction he was not expecting. He slipped and fell forward onto his ax which cut a trouser leg.

Mr. Torkelson leaves 12 children. His wife died in 1926. Mrs. Carl Zwerneman of 1411 Rhode Island NW, Mason City, is a daughter.
