Services for Bertha F. Schwab, 97, Britt, who died Sunday, Jan. 1, 1989 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, were held Wednesday, Jan. 4, 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Rev. Larry Vallery officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Ruby Hodson, and soloist, Cindy Schubert. Ushers were Gilbert Guenther and Robert Hiscocks, Jr.

Casket bearers were Darrell Schaper, Kenneth Schaper, Dennis Schwab, George Kesler, Jack Klinoff and Duane Schwab.

Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Bertha Florence Schwab, the daughter of Henry and Maria Ward Schaper, was born September 26, 1891 in Britt. She attended the country school near Britt. She was employed as a bookkeeper and secretary for the Britt Creamery.

January 31, 1930, she married Frank Joseph Schwab in Britt. The couple farmed in the Stilson area until their retirement in 1947 when they moved into Britt.

Bertha was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the United Methodist Church in Britt. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing quilts.

She is survived by two sisters, Martha Hanson of Britt and Agnes and her husband, John Klinoff of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank, who died February 3, 1974; three sisters, Norma Driste, Frances Whitney and Viola Lechelt; two brothers, Clifford and Howard Schaper.
