OBITUARY - HERMAN LUDEKE

Herman Frederick Ludeke was born in Stephenson Co, Illinois, September 10, 1854. Born into a Christian home, he early in life had the privileges of a Christian training. This in turn prepared him for an early conversion and uniting with the church. He loved the Word of God and often remarked that he believed every word of it. He knew its influence upon the lives of the young and therefore established and maintained the family alter.

On the 12th day of March, 1874, he was united in marriage with Martha Venekolt. To them ten children, four sons and six daughters were born, who are all with us today, except one son who, in the years of his early manhood preceded the father to his eternal home. After some years on a farm near Lena, Illinois, the family moved to Rockford, Iowa. Later they moved back to Stephenson County, Illinois, and after a stay of six years, the family came to live in the then known as German, now Liberty Township, Hancock County. For nearly ten years the parents have resided in Klemme.

The deceased was blessed with good health and a robust constitution and up to the time of his last sickness knew little of physical suffering.

He contracted a cold and on the second of May serious complications set in which after nine days brought his physical life to an end. Life is full of mysteries and true are the words of the Psalmist: "In the midst of life we are in death."

The deceased leaves to mourn his departure his widow; his sons, Henry, Elmer and Ralph; his daughters, Mrs. Arthur Schoenwetter, Mrs. Fred Schlicting, Mrs. Wm. Ax. Mrs. George Schoenwetter, all of Klemme, Mrs. Elmer Weisbrot of Fenton, Iowa, and Mrs. Carl Suckow, of Garner, Iowa; twenty three grandchildren; two brothers, Ferdinand and John of Lakeland, Florida; and numerous more distant relatives and friends.
