GARNER, Feb. 18 - Funeral services for Joel Forest, 88, a pioneer, were held in the Methodist Episcopal church, Friday afternoon, the Rev. C. H. VanMetre conducted the service and burial was in Concord cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Forest and children came here in the early 80's from Akron, Ohio. Mr. Forest operated a lumber yard and Mrs. Forest gave music lessons. She was a sister of Mrs. Robert Elder, deceased and of Walter Bloom, a former Klemme business man.
Of their three children, Daisy died at the age of five, James and Augustus were graduates of Garner high and both played in the town band. James was graduated from Iowa State college as a civil engineer and became an expert in concrete building. When James died in 1910, scientific papers in the east made more than a passing mention of his marked ability, recording the loss sustained in his death. Augustus, the only remaining child of the family is a man of worth. He has a position as food inspector and with his wife and children, lives in Birmingham, Ala.
