Mrs. Nellie Bowers Relieved Of Earth's Suffering By Death

Surrounded By Her Children, She Slept Into The Great Beyond Monday

Mrs. Nellie Bowers passed away at her home in Garner, Monday afternoon, October 1, 1934, at about 2 o'clock, after an illness extending over a period of about two years.

Maiden name of the deceased was Nellie Nichols. She was born in Delaware county, Iowa, April 14, 1862, and has passed her 72d birthday April 14th this year. She continued to reside in the county of her nativity until the death of her parents, after which she made her home with a sister, Mrs. Herbert Dunamoor, who resided in Ellington township, Hancock county. On November 11, 1880, she was married to Myron H. Bowers, and in the spring of 1883 they moved onto their farm four and one-half miles east of Garner, where they maintained a happy home for twenty nine years, and then moved to Garner. They came to our town twenty two years ago.

Everyone who has traveled the road between Garner and Clear Lake knows where the Bowers' corner is, and in the days when the road leading in that direction was more of a path than a road, people knew the Bowers' corner and Bowers home. The genial hospitality and kindness which prevaded that home made it a popular one.

Into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bowers five children were born. They are: Mrs. Pearl Strate and Mrs. Minnie Turbett, both of Gordonsville, Minn.; Clarence, of Clear Lake; Archie, of Garner and Mrs. Ruth Kraft of Renwick. Those children survive to mourn the passing of a most loving mother. Three sisters and two brothers also survive. They are: Mrs. Lulu Moyle, Fairmont, Minn,; Mrs. Carrie Dunamoor, Strawberry Point; Mrs. Mary Hallet, South Gate, Cailf.; James Nichols of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Miles Nichols of the state of Oregon. Her husband preceded herin death several years.

Mrs. Bowers was a faithful member of the methodist church, an ideal christian woman.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon. There will be a short service at the Bowers home at 1:30 o'clock and at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. T. Ernest Hoon, her pastor, will be in charge. Interment will be in Concord cemetery in the Bowers burial lot.
