Services for Robert E. Erdman, 56, of Garner, who died Saturday, Oct. 7, 1989, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Rev. Msgr. Roger E. O'Brien as officiant. Sr. Mary K. Doughn, P.M. was lector.

Mrs. Ronald Kumsher, organist, accompanied the St. Boniface choir. Ushers were Robert Kral and Dick Frein.

Casket bearers were Dick Voortmann, Dennis Detter, Cecil Noble, Verne Hejlik, Gary Maben and Dave Greiman.

Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. A Scriptural Wake Service and a rosary by the Rosary Society were held Monday evening at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Robert Edward Erdman, the son of Anthony John and Aurelia (McCoy) Erdman, was born January 29, 1933 at Spencer. He attended school at Marshalltown, Mason City and then graduated from Belmond High School in 1951. Bob worked at the Belmond Creamery and the Ford Garage in Belmond. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1951 until 1955.

June 6, 1953, he married Geraldine Jaacks at Belmond. They lived in California, Belmond, and in 1963, moved to Garner. He drove an armored car for a firm out of Mason City. In 1963, he organized and operated the Erdman Sanitation Service, which he ran until the time of his death.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Garner V. F. W. Post and was a sponsor of Duck's Unlimited.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Laura McCubbin and her husband, Greg, of Denver, Mrs. Cynthia Taylor and her husband, Gary of Forest City, and Mrs. Valerie Johnson and her husband Curtis of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Aurelia Erdman of Garner; and four sisters, Donella Erdman of Garner, Mrs. Kathryn McLeod of Ann Arbor, MI, Mrs. Rose Nelson of Garden Grove, CA, and Helen Erdman of Garner.

He was preceded in death by his father, A. J. Erdman, April 7, 1984.
