Was Pioneer Farmer, Active in Community
Britt: Funeral services for Charles H [A]. Mau, 81, retired farmer and former manager of the Britt Shipping association, were held Sunday at the Congregational church following prayer at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dan Williams, where he lived for the past several years. He died Friday.
Born in German Sept. 4, 1862, he came to the United States at the age of 17. He married Miss Amelia Milbrandt at Monticello, Wis., in 1891, later moving to Hancock County.
He was a member of the Evangelical church, the M.W.A. and the I.O.O.F. He helped develop the 1st 4-H baby beef club in Hancock county, and as a school director was instrumental in getting free textbooks for the children of the district.
His wife died in 1936. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Williams and Mrs. H. O. Halvorson, Britt; Mrs. Wesley Cordes, Ft. Dodge; Louis, Klemme; Cecil, Charles City; Harold, DeKalb, Ill.; and Charles, Jr., Rochelle, Ill.
The Boughton funeral home was in charge of the services which were conducted by the Rev. O. M. Johnson. The I.O.O.F. attended in a body.
