Pallbearers were Mrs. Rode's six grandsons: Wm. Rode Jr., Art Rode, Forrest Rode, Arnold Brandt, Kenneth Brandt and Louis Franzen. Following is the obituary read at the service:

Emma Duden Rode was born on Jan. 2, 1867 in Hohenkirchen, Oldenburg, Germany. She was the daughter of August and Gerhardine Duden. She entered into covenant relation with the triune God, through the sacrament of Holy Baptism. When yet a small child she was bereaved of her beloved father. At the age of 14 she made public confession of her Christian faith and was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Hohenkirchen.

On May 1, 1887, she was united in marriage to John Rode in Rastede, Oldenburg. This union was blessed with seven children, four sons and three daughters. Two sons, Carl 15 and Louis 18 preceded their parents into eternity by accidental death. In the year 1896 she and her husband and the four eldest children came to America, to the vicinity of Britt. Nine years later the family came to the vicinity of Titonka, and settled on a farm one mile north of Immanuel church. They also united with the aforesaid church and continued as faithful members.

In 1915 the Rodes moved to Titonka, where the parents continued in retirement. On October 4, 1933 Mother Rode was bereaved of her beloved husband who was laid to rest in Immanuel cemetery. On November 14, 1945, she made her home on the farm of her daughter Erna, Mrs. Henry Franzen Jr. Grandma Rode had been in ill health for several years. She told her pastor that she often thought "This is the end" but the Lord in His grace continued to extend her life. She became bed-fast on the day after Thanksgiving. Last Wednesday evening, Jan. 22, at 6:30, the Lord in His grace, mercifully received her into her heavenly home.

She leaves to mourn her departure, two sons,. William and John of Titonka, three daughters, Emma, Mrs. Ben Franzen, Caroline, Mrs. Martin Brandt and Erna, Mrs. Henry Franzen Jr., all of Titonka. Also 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, three brothers: Carl Tegtmeyer of Clear Lake, William of Britt, Louis of Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters: Mrs. Ben Gelman of Ackley, Mrs. George Arends of Cevina, Calif.

She reached the age of 80 years and 20 days.
