Karen Sue Giddings was born March 3, 1949, at Buffalo Center, Iowa, to J. Harold and Mildred (Franzen) Ricklefs. Karen was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Titonka and graduated from Titonka High School. Karen attended Lutheran College and graduated with an elementary teaching degree in 1971. She was united in marriage to Roger Giddings on June 12, 1971, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Karen taught in Garner and Forest City Christian School and home schooled their two children for the next years. After living a very few years in Forest City, Roger and Karen and family (daughter Annette and son Daniel) lived on a farm south and west of Woden.

Karen enjoyed working with Children's Ministry through the years as well as sewing, painting, reading, arts and crafts and gardening and being part of the farming operation.

Karen was called home to be with her Jesus on Easter Sunday morning, March 23, 2008, at the age of 59. Waiting to join her later are her husband Roger of Woden, daughter Annette Giddings of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son Daniel and wife Molly of Ringsted, Iowa, mother Mildred Ricklefs of Titonka, and brothers Merle Ricklefs and wife Betty of Woden, Iowa, Mark Ricklefs and wife Georgia of Titonka and Keith Ricklefs of Sioux City, Iowa as well as many nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her father.
