Alitza Matuza Boehnke
VENTURA - Services for Alitza Matuza Boehnke, 84, Ventura, who died Thursday (Feb. 23, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East in Mason City, will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, northeast of Garner, with the Rev. Carl R. Hedberg officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.
Alitza Boehnke, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Benn) Matuza was Boehnke born May 14, 1910, at Burgl Febmarn, Germany. She was baptized May 23, 1910, and confirmed in June of 1924 in Germany.
In 1929, she emigrated from Germany to the United States, She made her home with Dr. and Mrs. B. Raymond Weston and their daughters, Cynthia Protzman and Dorothy Judd.
On Oct. 14, 1951, she was married to Lawrence C. Boehnke at St. John's Lutheran Church, northeast of Garner.
They lived and farmed near St. John's Corner until they retired from active farming in 1976. After her husband's death, Alitza continued to live at St. John's Corner.
In January of 1991 she moved to the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City, due to ill health.
She enjoyed her family, many friends, cooking and music, especially opera.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and the Lamp Lighters.
She is survived by a brother, George Matuza and his wife, Gretel; a sister, Elfrieda Bernhardt; five nephews; and four nieces, all of Germany; a brother-in-law, Earl Boehnke and his wife, Laura, of Ventura; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Dressel and her husband, the Rev. Oscar A., of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Edna Boehnke of Edina, Minn.; two nieces and four nephews and by affection, Cynthia Protzman and her husband, James, and Dorothy Judd.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Boehnke, July 26, 1978; her parents; a sister, Irene Bernhardt; and a brother-in-law, George Boehnke.
