ABSTRACTED OBITUARY from Forest City Summit, Oct. 22, 1959

Rev. Gerhard Hjelmaas, 60, minister of the Crystal Lake and Hayfield Methodist churches died Oct. 14 of a heart attack.

Gerhard Johan Hjelmaas, son of Johan A. and Alfinia K. Olson Hjelmaas, was born Nov. 23, 1898 at Bergen, Norway. He was baptized and confirmed in Norway and educated there prior to leaving for the United States in 1922.

Entered Garret Biblical Institute in Evanston, Ill. where he prepared for the ministry. In 1926 he graduated as a deacon.

July 5, 1927 he was married to Edith Olson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Holund Olson of Bergen, Norway in Evanston, Ill. They went to Valley City, N. D., In 1929 he was ordained an elder. In 1933, they moved to Brighton, Mn. until 1943 when they moved to Crystal Lake.

Survivors are his wife, Edith; two sons, Roy of Mason City and Jan Robert of Edwardsville, Ill. ; four grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Wilda Sketllng of St. Helena, Calif. ; and a brother, Ralph of Bergen, Norway.

Services at Crystal Lake Methodist church with burial in the family lot in Crystal Cemetery.
