1899-1990Services for Margaret M. Fillenwarth, 90, Britt, who died Sunday, Oct. 28, 1990 at the Westview Care Center in Britt, were held Tuesday, Oct. 30, 1:30 p.m. at Zion Church of the Nazarene in Britt with Rev. Brandt Freeburg officiating.
Music was provided by organist, Mrs. Lyle Meyers, who accompanied soloist, Bruce Halverson. Ushers were Eldon Meyers and Mark Rayhons.
Casket bearers were Mike Boomgarden, Duane Logemann, Harold Schwab, Myrlen Olsen, Lyle Meyers and Jack Powers.
Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Margaret Mary Fillenwarth, the daughter of Frank and Ann Jane Ward Fillenwarth, was born December 15, 1899 on a farm south of Britt. She attended the Erin Rural School, Britt High School, Britt Junior College and the Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, MO. In 1926 she moved with her parents into a home in Britt. She is the last of her generation on the Fillenwarth side of the family. For 25 years, Margaret was employed in various business places in Britt including the First State Bank, Britt News-Tribune office and Driste Variety Store.
Margaret was a charter member of the Zion Church of the Nazarene in Britt, and the N.W.M.S. in which she was active in both groups as well as in Sunday school work. She was a charter member of the Hancock County Historical Society to which she made many contributions. Her many interests included gardening, flowers, wood finishing, sewing and collecting historical material of early Hancock County and the Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by four nieces and two nephews, Judy Brunsvold and her husband, Robert of Forest City, June Hauser and Fern Schmidt, both of Algona, Rose Francis and husband, Duane of Britt, Paul Fillenwarth of Stuartville, MN, and Vernon Fillenwarth; and many other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Vincent, in 1963.
