Crystal Lake - Mrs. Gertrude I. Earp, 88, pioneer resident of this area, died Thursday night at the Belmond Community Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at the Methodist Church here. The Rev. T. Janet Surdam and Luella Koether officiated. Burial was in Crystal Cemetery with Boughton Funeral Home in Charge.

The daughter of Carl and Mary Hanstine Price, she was born July 4, 1874, at Galesburg. She was married there to James O. Earp, Dec. 2, 1894. They farmed there 15 years and homesteaded in Minnesota before coming to Crystal Lake in 1916. He died in 1939. She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary and chaplain many years.

Surviving are two sons, Howard, Crystal Lake; Claire, Albert Lea; two daughters, Juanita, Crystal Lake; Mrs. Arnold (Mabel) Rensink, Hayfield; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
