Hold Rites For Husband, Wife
Forest City Couple Die Almost Together

Forest City - Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Kiefer, who died Sunday evening within a few minutes of each other, will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Olson funeral home and at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church. The Rev. C. H. Petersen will officiate and burial will be in the Madison cemetery.

Mrs.Kiefer had gone to the telephone to call a doctor for her husband, when she was stricken with a heart attack and died while at the phone. Her husband had been in poor health for several months.

Hazel Hurd Kiefer, 56, was born in 1888 at Milton, Wis. Valentine Kiefer, 71, was born in 1873 at Aurora, Ill. They were married in 1908. Mr. and Mrs. Kiefer had lived in this community for 30 years. They farmed for 28 years, southeast of Forest City on a farm in Hancock county, and moved to town in 1942.

Surviving are 9 children. The children are Sgt. Charles Floyd Kiefer, with the army in England, Mrs. Ruth McCloud, Forest City; Donald of Clear Lake, Pfc. Clifford Kiefer with the army in New Guinea; Mrs. Wanda Irvin of Plymouth; Mrs. Verna Drake of Crystal Lake; Robert K. of Mason City, Shirley, who has been working in a defense plant in Omaha, Nebr., and Frances, at home. Mrs. Kiefer is survived by 2 sisters and 2 brothers, Mrs. Alice Hammond of Hanlontown, Mrs. Mary Nygreen of Rockford, Ill., Lester and Guy Hurd both of St. Charles, Mich.

Mr. Kiefer leaves 1 brother, Peter, of Dodges Point, Wis. Two brothers preceded him in death.
