Last Rites for Retired Farmer at Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake - Funeral services for J. J. Hansen, 79, retired farmer of Crystal Lake community, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church, the Rev. Gerhard Hjelmaas officiating. Funeral arrangements are by the Boughton Funeral Home of Britt. He died Friday at a hospital in Britt following a stroke a month ago.

Mr. Hansen was active in the affairs of the community, serving as school director and township trustee for several years. He was born in Denmark Jan. 13, 1874, to Hans C. and Matilda Hansen and came to the United States at the age of eight, settling near Cedar Falls.

On Feb. 23, 1901, he was married to Miss Matilda Larsen of Cedar Falls. They farmed there for six years before coming to Hancock County where they farmed for 36 years northwest of Crystal Lake.

Survivors include the widow, sons Harvey of Forest City and Erwin of Glendive, Calif., one daughter, Mrs. Leonard Kallstad of Belmond, and a brother, Jeppe Hansen, of Austin, Minn.

Burial will be in the Crystal Cemetery.
