Pollock Rites Held At Garner
Funeral Services of Pioneer Citizen at Presbyterian Church

Garner, June 15. - Funeral services for Clare Pollock, pioneer citizen, were held yesterday afternoon in the United Presbyterian church and burial was in the recent addition of Concord cemetery.

The service began with the singing of the twenty-third psalm by Clint Daniels, Miss Jessie Smith, Mrs. Henry Brede and Paul Knaupp with Mrs. Daniels at the piano. They later sang "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages".

Assisted by Van Metre

Mr. Pollock's pastor, the Rev. David Lewis, was assisted by the Rev. C. H. Van Metre. The pastor used as a text "Ye believe in God, believe also in me."

Mr. Pollock was born in Ohio in 1871. He came to Garner in 1892. He was married to Flora Baker of Britt in 1895. He clerked until 1901 when he became a tenant on a farm of J. N. Sprole west of here where he lived for 21 years. In 1923 Mr. and Mrs. Pollock built a home on a 10 acre tract on the west edge of Garner where they have lived since.

During this time he was engaged in secretarial work for the co-operative creamery association and the County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the United Presbyterian church. For 16 years he was superintendent of the Bible school and he served 20 years as a ruling elder.

Four Children Born

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Pollock, Reva, wife of Professor Crofutt, Orno, Maine; Blanche, wife of Floyd Franklin, Garner; Laurice, Cedar Rapids and Halbert of Storm Lake. Other relatives are sisters, Mrs. Ina Phillips of Earlville, Matie and Alva Pollock and brothers Winfield, Ernest and Scott Pollock, all of whom were here.

Out of town friends who attended the funeral were Roscoe Baker of Spencer; the Rev. and Mrs. Earle Baker, Mt. Vernon; the Rev. Clyde Baker and daughter, Faith, Mt. Vernon; The Rev. William Baker, Sioux City, all brothers of Mrs. Pollock; Mrs. Ina Phillips, Edgewood; Ernest Phillips, Ames; Mrs. Elizabeth Merwin, Mt. Vernon; Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Kennedy and children, Ogden; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ramsay, Clarion; Mr. and Mrs. Earle Watts and daughter, Ruth and Mrs Watts, Sr., Clear Lake. Also the following, all associated in the state creamery organization with Mr. Pollock, Messrs Dunn, Alexander; Blomgren, Kanawha; A. O. Christiansen, Crystal Lake; Martin Olson, Kanawha; Healy, Brott and the Woden bankers.
