Rites Monday for Mrs. B. Borchers, 85

Garner - Funeral services for Mrs. Bert (Etta) Borchers, 85, will be held at the Bohn Funeral Home in Garner at 1:30 p.m. and at the First Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon. The Rev. Carl J. Mohr, pastor of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church of Garner, will be in charge of the service. Interment will be in the Concord Township Cemetery. Mrs. Borchers died Friday at a nursing home in Clear Lake, following a lingering illness.

Etta Christina Nieman was born at Aurich, Germany, on Dec. 15, 1871, and came to America at an early age with her parents. On Dec. 15, 1891 she was married to Bert Borchers at Parkersburg and after a year the family came to the Garner vicinity where they lived on a farm until 1919, when they retired to Garner.

In 1940 Mrs. Borchers went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Wilbur Meckstroth, on a farm near Clear Lake. Seven years ago she suffered a stroke and had been a semi-invalid since. She was cared for by her daughter until about three months ago when she was taken to the nursing home.

Surviving are one son, Albert, Garner; three daughters, Mrs. Herman (Eva) Folkerts, Garner; Mrs. Frank (Julia) Bredlow, Garner, and Mrs. Wilbur (Tillie) Meckstroth, Clear Lake. Thrirteen grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren also survive.

Borchers died in 1933, a son, John, a grandson, Sgt Glen Bredlow, and a great grandson also preceded her in death.
